The Diverse Range of Casino Games

January 27, 2010 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling

There are several casino games available for you to play that can enable you to reach different levels of thrill and excitement. Casinos have made it possible for you to join into a wide variety of games where you can try your luck and maybe make a fortune. But if you are more into enjoying yourself while at the casino, then you should try out all the casino games available for you in order to give you a worthwhile experience.

One of the most common and popular of casino games is the slot machines. It is one of the casino games available that any casino visitor can play without requiring any prior gambling knowledge. Unlike card games, one does not have to be an expert at the slots. Anyone can easily engage in the game and even win at it. The slots also do require only small bets that any casino visitor can easily afford.

Originally, slot machines were installed in casinos as a diversion for casual casino gamers. But eventually, the slots became a monstrous success as more and more casino gamers prefer to play the slots more than any other table games available. They became the most popular and the most profitable casino game that is why they became the casino’s common trademark. The technology of slot machines may have changed but the game is still played the same way. The player pulls a lever to rotate a series of reels that have different pictures printed on them. Winning is determined by lining up the pictures with the pay line, a line found at the middle of the viewing window. If the series of reels shows similar pictures lining up along the pay line, you win. The amount will depend on what pictures land on the pay line.

Other casino games available for you to play are a number of card games where you may be able to bet to your heart’s content. One card game that you can play is blackjack. Blackjack is one of the most popular card games that you can find at the casino. The primary objective at winning at this card game is trying to get as close to 21 with your cards as possible. Its simplicity has made it one of the more enduring and popular of casino card games. The players would usually be playing against the dealer and not with each other. Their aim is to get their cards have a value as close to 21 as possible. The suits have no meaning in this card game and going over 21 will get you busted. If you are able to have a set of cards having a value closest to 21, then you win.

Another card game that has been getting its ride on popularity has been poker. It has been a game that more and more people would like to play. It is a type of casino game where players go against other players in order to win and not against the dealer. But in order to play the game, a player should be able to understand and know by heart the basics of playing the game. It is not something that one can learn and win games at overnight. Poker is a game that would need a lot of skill and knowledge.

Other games that you will be able to play at casinos include craps and roulette. Craps is a dice game where you may be able to bet in a variety of ways in order to win. It is a kind of casino game that may also require a bit of knowledge before being played. The varieties of winning combinations possible at craps have made it also one of the most exciting casino games one can play. Another casino game that won’t need much knowledge for you to play is at the roulette wheels. Here, you would only need to guess where the ball would fall once the roulette wheel stops spinning and you win. One can either bet on red/black, high/low, or odd/even in order to win.

Considerations When Purchasing Casino Quality Poker Chips

January 16, 2010 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling, poker

There are many considerations when purchasing casino quality poker chips. If you research retailers in this particular niche online, or even in your local community, you will find that there are thousands upon thousands of specialty stores that sell poker chips. With all the choices that you have when it comes to gaming supplies, particularly poker chips, it is essential to know and understand what to look for.

In this guide, I will share with you some simple considerations when purchasing casino quality poker chips. You will know what to look for, how to find it, and as a result, you will be more confident in your ability to purchase chips that are right for you, and your gaming needs.

The first thing that you want to ensure that you pay special attention to when it comes to quality in poker chips is the inlay, or the labels of the inlay. Many poker chips have designs or stickers that are printed on them. In order to determine if the chip exhibits high quality or low quality, you should see if the inlay scratches easily, or if it can be removed easily during game play.

The next test involves the damage that may come from moisture. In order to test the poker chip, place one in water, and leave the rest out. Once it has been emerged in water for a one day period, carefully inspect it to see if any major damage has occurred. If you find that the chip has inlays that can be easily damaged and/or removed, it may not be the set of casino quality poker chips that you are seeking.

If you are taking a look around for casino poker chips that have what is called a “hot stamp”, it is important to test the quality of the product prior to investing a lot into them. When casino poker chips are “hot stamped”, it indicates that there is a section of text that is gold in color on the pieces. The text typically indicates the values, or denominations, of the chips.

You should ensure that it is deep set so that it does not scratch when the chips are rubbed together, or if someone handles them a lot. If you find that the chip does this, it is likely that it is not the high quality that you seek and deserve. If necessary, you can avoid hot stamped poker chips altogether and aim for those that have engraved lettering and numbers in them. These types seem to be more durable.

When reviewing chips, be sure to pay close attention to the edges. Poker chips are often tapped, hit together, and are exposed to a lot of harsh treatment. It is important to know that your investment will not be damaged by these types of activities. You will want to watch for cracking, splitting, and even indentions. If you find that your poker chips, or the chips that you are testing out show any of these indicators of damage, it is quite likely that they are not casino quality poker chips. You will want to either move on to another type, or possibly even a better source for your gaming supplies.

In researching various products, it is important to consider the composition of the poker chips, the overall structure, as well as the durability on the whole. These are the most important considerations when purchasing casino quality poker chips.

Top 5 Casino/Poker Movies

January 16, 2010 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling, poker

Rounders:
- Not too much to say about this movie. For Texas Hold’em fans this is their filmatic-Bible. Rounders is inescapable, and a bit overrated, but all around enjoyable, especially for John Malkovich’s great performance (and accent). My friend works for a manufacturer that sells custom poker chip sets and he says he gets at least a dozen orders a month from people asking to recreate the bear-emblazened personalized poker chips from this movie.

The Cooler:
- I’m a bit biased since I’m a big William H. Macy fan. He does get somewhat typecast as the feckless loser too often (as he does in this film) but he does it so well. Alec Baldin is really good in this as well.

Croupier:
-This film is really worth seeing especially if you are a modern film noir fan. This is a really dark, really well done film that doesn’t gloss over the seedy side of the Casino business. It was one of the better movies I’ve seen in a long time. It doesn’t romanticise the profession, far from it, but it does show casino’s and gambling in a certain seedy, but appealing light. I recommend the movie, not just to casino lovers or card fans but to anyone looking for a great depiction of the industry and how it can both ruin and save one’s life.

California Split:
- It’s by Robert Altman. An American treasure. What more can I say? See this before Atlman’s ghost rolls up in a Benz, Mercedes benz rims and all, and slaps you into it cognizance.

Casino
- DeNiro, Sharon Stone, Martin Scorsese. This movie is to gambling movies what Godfather is to mobster movies. If you’re looking for the ultimate Casino/ poker movie most would agree that this is it.

Fixed Odds Casino Games

January 10, 2010 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling

If you are interested in taking part in casino gambling then it is vital that you understand a little bit about the games and the odds prior to going to the casino for the first time. Why you may ask? Doesn’t it seem somewhat silly? Sure, it may to some people; however, if you know what you are doing beforehand, it makes your experience a much easier and more enjoyable one.

If you have never been to a casino and you were to walk into one right now, would you know what game table to choose or what game to play to best suit your bankroll? Probably not. You need to know the risks of the game as well as what you are up against in regards to the odds. Within this article, we are going to shed a little bit of light on fixed odds casino games.

First of all, what does fixed odds mean – what are they? Well, depending on who you are, the answer may differ a bit.

So, basically, fixed odds are the odds for a casino game. The fixed odds will vary depending on what type of game you are playing from poker to blackjack to craps. The reason it differs with each type of casino game is because it will depend upon the cards that are dealt, the game position, the actual skill of the player, etc. On the other hand, there are a few casino games that have fixed odds that do not change at all at any time. Any game with a spinning wheel is known to be a fixed odds game and the odds will not ever change and are there to stay forever.

Now when it comes to sports betting, fixed odds are related to the bet odds. When you place a bet, the odds are usually set in stone; however, with some sports the odds are not determined until the actual race starts. These odds, for any sport, are determined by a bookie or a bookmaker. This person is the individual that takes the bets (your money) and provides the payout for the wagers placed. As for casino betting, you will find sports book as your bookie.

When it comes to fixed odds games, the house is definitely in favor. You may also find that the house will take a certain amount, or percentage, out of your bet or profit in order to receive some type of compensation for the betting taking place with them. It is sort of like a convenience or service charge.

In fixed odds casino gaming, or sports betting, you will find that there are three different types of odds – moneyline odds, fractional odds, decimal odds.

Fractional odds are odds that are based on what the stake of the bettor will be. This is most commonly used in the United Kingdom and other countries in Europe. Decimal odds are based on a bettor being prepared to surrender their stake for a bet. In other words, the bettor’s payout is the figure quoted from the winning amount.

Fractional odds allow a bettor a quote based on the total amount of money paid to them that will be paid upon winning. The winning are compared on what the bettor’s stake will be. This form of odds is popular in European countries, such as Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Moneyline odds are different, are used primarily in America, and are often heard as American odds. Moneyline odds are shown in a positive or a negative manner. The positive pertains to the amount that will be won on a specific bet. The negative pertains to the amount of money that must be bet in order to win a specific amount.

Obviously, when it comes to fixed odds gaming, there is a lot to learn. You should do as much research possible and read up until you fully understand the concept of fixed odds gaming. Sure, research and reading may not be the greatest excitement; however, when you start playing, you will be able to see how much it helped!

Understanding Casino Odds

January 10, 2010 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling, poker

What exactly do odds mean when it comes to gambling? Well, simply put, it is the probability of you winning or losing. Simple as that. It is similar to the likelihood of a specific event or occurrence happening. This can refer to many things from receiving a top hand in Texas Hold ‘em, your favorite Baseball or Basketball team winning the game this weekend, or even you getting a Blackjack when playing Blackjack.

There is also another way for the term odds to be used. The term odds also can mean the amount of payout that you will receive if you win. It doesn’t mean the same odds as above with the casino gambling. However, the odds associated with, for example, casino sports books, are the amount that will be paid against a wager (or bet) placed. In other words, if you were placing a bet on your favorite baseball team and they had odds of 40 to 1 then you will usually win $40.00 on a $1.00 bet.

Now, there are three different main type of odds. The specific type of odds that are used at the casino you are visiting will depend upon the country in which you are playing. The three type of odds consist of fractional odds, decimal odds, and moneyline odds. Below, we will go into detail about each one.

The first we will talk about are fractional odds. These odds are primarily used in the United Kingdom and British areas and therefore are commonly known as UK odds or British odds. With these odds, you receive you original bet back as well as the fractional odds payout. With that said, if the fractional odds stated 4/1 then you would receive $4 for each $1 bet. In addition, you could also say that you must bet $4 in order to receive a profit of $1. It could work both ways.

Now, decimal odds are primarily used in the mainland Europe and Australia. When the decimal odds are shown, you will see the bet you placed as well as the payout that you will receive. For example, if you had 5/1 or five to one then it would be shown as 6 due to the fact that you would receive to the five to one plus your one wager. If you were to see 1/5, then the decimal odds would be shown as 1.20.

The final type of odds is the moneyline odds. These are most commonly used in America, or the United States, and are often known as American odds. The moneyline odds are factored at what you need to bet in order to win $100 with a minus sign or what you will win for each $100 that you wager with a plus sign. For example, if you were to see +$30 that that means that if you were to place a $100 bet then you would win $130. On the opposite end of that, if you were to see -$50 then that means that you would win $100 for each $50 bet. The team most likely to win will have the plus sign next to their odds whereas the weaker team will have the minus sign next to their odds.

Casino odds are definitely something that can be a bit tricky, especially at first. Make sure you understand the difference between five to one and one to five. Do your research and do some fake bets at home to make sure you understand what you are doing before placing the real ones. Remember, though, have fun!

Super Casino Gambling – Online and Offline

December 08, 2009 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling

Land-based casinos and online casino revenues and site releases are growing faster then ever. Even after the dust has settled following the recent American law prohibiting deposits to online gambling companies, large organisations such as Party Gaming, Ladbrokes and VIP Casino club are all increasing their efforts to attract a wider European or global audience.

Gambling itself is a compulsive and addictive activity, with numerous regulatory societies attempting to outlaw and even ban online gambling around the globe. Regulatory environments themselves differ from country to country. While the US has sought keenly to identify ways of banning online gambling, the UK has lead the way to ensuring that online gambling remains a choice for many, but does not become a threat to others.

Its recent release of a new Gambling Act has sought to protect children and problem areas from abusive gambling, while attempting to levy a tax duty on all income from gambling both offline and online. The Act will make it illegal to entice children to gamble and there will be compulsory age checks for online gambling websites.

Its new Gambling Act will provision for the construction of Super Casinos in selected areas across the country, though this has been scaled down from an initial 40 super casinos to around 8, following complaints from the public and opposition parties. The Gambling Act will allow casinos to operate 24 hours, with unlimited jackpots, and gambling will be allowed on Sundays and Bank Holidays. As far as online websites are concerned, when the Act comes into force at the end of September 2007, companies will be able to apply for a license to operate online gambling website from a UK base.

Countries differ in terms of how they levy a tax on gambling. For example, some will tax each bet individually while countries like the UK, tax only the gross profits that gambling organisations make. Territories like Malta and Gibraltar offer competitive tax regimes as well as the benefits of an off-shore financial centre.

Australia has a large gambling population, where statistic show that 80% of its population gambles. Super casinos are also allowed in Australia, with Sydney’s Star City reputedly the size of 7 football fields. A recent study also showed that Australians spend more money each week on gambling than they do on alcohol or clothes. State government proceeds from gambling have increased to around $3.8bn per annum, since 1998.

Poker and Trading Part I

November 17, 2009 :: Posted by - :: Category - casino, gambling, poker

Both poker and trading can be considered financial ‘games’. Games where insights into human nature are crucial, and especially insight into our own emotions. The good trader/player knows when to push hard, and when it’s time to retreat. Alertness, relaxation, detachment and other complex mental traits have to develop if one is to succeed in the long run.

This article considers one strategy – called “tight” in poker and compares it with trading. In poker almost every table has a very tight player. They only open with aces suited or a high pair. This is a reasonable strategy and mostly these players make small profits or break-even. They rarely make large gains though because other players know that once this tight player raises he has a good hand- and so everyone folds around them.

Trading has a similar type of player. Many traders wait for all the indicators(fundamental and technical)to line up and confirm that the trade will go in the expected direction. And usually it does. However, it may soon change direction. This is because everyone who was going to go long has already gotten on board. This is not to say that waiting is a bad strategy – it is a safe one that requires patience. Most of the time it is the best strategy. But sometimes, like on the poker table, we need to mix it up.

In poker our tight player gets dealt a pair of aces. This is what he has been waiting for and he comes out guns blazing. On the flop there might be some dangerous cards – such as 2 of the same suit – indicating that another player could have a flush draw… Another card with the same suit comes on the turn. But he ignores this and continues to bet. At the river the opponent turns over a 2,3 suited to the 3 table cards and wins with a low flush. Our ACES man is devasted. He had the much higher hand before the flop- it doesn’t seem fair! But poker is about the cards both now and in the future.

Likewise, the very patient trader often finds it hard to get out of trade once it goes wrong. He has spent much effort identifying the right trade and been so patient waiting for it to set up that he feels almost cheated if the trade turns wrong. He ignores what is occuring now because he is fixated on the past inputs. A bad result may be even more devastating for the trader: At least the poker player can know the odds, and understand that he may have had 70% likelihood of winning, but that he got unlucky. But such odds calculations are not available to the trader- he may be genuinely mystified. And the more emotion and money invested in the trade the more the effects are multiplied.

Part II (to be published soon)looks at gaining an edge. Trading is not that different from the way a casino is run. There are a few hundred casinos and tens of thousands of players. Often the players get lucky but over the long run it is the casino that continually adds to its bank account.When I first started trading I made some good bets and took fast and large profits. It seemed easy. It only took a month before those first profits went and another three months before the remainder of the account disappeared too. I was playing like a typical gambler. What I gradually learned, the hard way, was that a successful trader becomes the casino, not one of the players. He finds an edge and works it, looking for consistent small increases in equity. Do you have an edge? if you are not sure what your edge is then it is likely you don’t. As they say in poker, ‘If you can’t spot the sucker at the table, then you are the sucker’. And remember, even slotmachine gamblers have winning streaks. If you have been winning do you have a real edge or are you only getting lucky. (To be continued).

How to Win at Casinos – A Gambling Strategy Gamblers Thought Effective But Grievous in Reality

November 12, 2009 :: Posted by - :: Category - blackjack, casino, gambling

It was my second time in this casino – the first time being a couple of months ago. It was early evening when I arrived, and as usual, I took a round. My eyes went scanning for any changes that might have taken place in the two months that I was away. There was not any difference – the place was perfectly the same as it was, except maybe that the security guard at the entrance door has become more courteous.

There were already a few gamblers inside. I knew then that the peak casino time would be around 10 in the evening. I took a round at the slots, and then I went to the exclusive room. The exclusive room was still empty. I remembered I was in this room before – it was in this room where I made a killings in Blackjack two months ago. After a few minutes wandering, I returned and sat at the Blackjack table in the pit area. There were two gamblers playing. I sat with them but I did not play. The limits at the table were 100 and 2,000 pesos.

There again I saw the two gamblers bungling. (As I have mentioned in my book “The Samonte Gambling System”, bunglers are gamblers who play games they do not know anything about – and I consider it as a very serious mistake that will surely led to financial ruin in extended play.) When will these gamblers ever learn? These gamblers never have any idea what it takes to win at casinos. I stayed sitting at the table for maybe about an hour. Then after I felt bored, I proceeded to the exclusive room. There were already players in the exclusive room.

The exclusive room was small – it had only four gaming tables clustered around. The Blackjack table was placed right near the entrance door and two women were playing there at the moment. Beside the Blackjack table was a Baccarat table and there were a few gambler playing in it. I sat at Blackjack but I did not play yet as it was still in the middle of the shoe. At that point some gamblers arrived and they all sat at the Baccarat table. The Baccarat table became full.

Then I started playing Blackjack together with the two women… I was seated at the first base. The game went seesaw for a while, and at about in the middle of the shoe a certain big gambler arrived. He wanted to play Baccarat but it was full, so he sat at the Blackjack table. It was obvious the man was very popular in casino. The dealers were very nice to him – which I knew later was because he was a big tipper. All the gamblers in the room knew him well too, including the two women playing Blackjack with me. It looked like I was the only unknown person in that room.

The big gambler sat beside me and bet 4,000 pesos – the table limit. In the first four deals he won it all. Somehow I knew he was not a good Blackjack player but at that time he did not need to – he got Blackjack in all of the four deals! Then to my dismay – and to the dealer too, he quit. He stood up and took three steps away. And he never played at Blackjack again – he just stood at our back with his arms folded, until the shoe was through. I found him really an unusual gambler.

Then he left for a while. We found the chance then to talk about him. The dealer said they have known him with that gambling style – leaving the table immediately after a win! He was a big businessman in town, and his families were known to the place as big businessmen too. He started gambling in that casino just very recently, only about four months. His favorite game was Baccarat, and he rarely plays Blackjack. His playing style was, he would quickly stop after some win but would not stop after some losses. I was very curious to know whether he actually won with his style. He did not. The dealer said he was more a big loser than as a big winner. He was the casino’s latest addition to their herd of milking cows.

I found the person’s style really unusual. He uses a very faulty hit and run play – in his winning sequences he runs, and in his bad streaks, he hits. What a play! This is the very opposite of the hit and run play that I advocate. The correct hit and run play is to hit the casino’s bad streaks, and run at the casino’s lucky streaks. I say that this gambler’s style is suicide. I wished he would stop going to the casino while it was not yet late or he would surely go bankrupt in due time.

Casino business is one of the most lucrative businesses today, and this is because of the so many bad gamblers around. If only these gamblers knew the correct way to play, the casinos would not have earned such a stellar status. It does not need to be a genius to learn to play right, it takes only common sense, yet gamblers never seems to be aware of it. In today’s technology, learning the correct way to win at casinos is just a click away yet gamblers never take technology to full use. Sometimes I want to believe that gamblers lose because they want to lose.

Do You Want To Play Online Poker?

November 11, 2009 :: Posted by - :: Category - gambling, poker

Are you of legal age to gamble already? Have some money to spare? And more importantly, do you find yourself excited or at the very least, curious, about playing online poker? If so, then you’ve come to the right place. A lot of people who are new to the online poker scene feel somewhat intimidated and helpless when it comes to playing online poker for the first time.

And at times, their nerves get the better of them. So instead of forging ahead and playing online poker, they back out and simply try to feel content with just watching Celebrity Poker on television or other professional poker tournaments. If you’re new to the online poker scene and would like a crash course about it then wait no more because we’re about to give it to you in three.. two..

ONE game is all it takes to get you hooked because poker is truly an amazing game. First, it challenges your brains. Don’t believe people when they tell you that poker is an easy game to win. It’s not!

But it isn’t as difficult as solving as Rubic’s cube. When you play poker, whether you do so online or live, you’ll realize that your brain is challenged to come up with different scenarios for the two cards you’re holding with your hand. With those two cards, you should be able to do the following: determine whether it has a good chance of winning, determine your chances against the other players and determine whether it’s time to fold in the successive rounds.

Secondly, if you’re worried about the game getting dull when you’re waiting for other players to make a move by folding, calling or raising a bet, you need not worry. This is because online poker sites have foreseen this problem so they made sure they offer their members a lot of cool graphics and distractions if they need to while away the waiting time.

After gaining considerable experience in playing poker, you may be able to make a living out of online poker. I kid you not! Online poker is easier than playing live poker because it offers helpful statistics that will let you know which rooms have big pots and which ones are populated by inexperienced poker players whom you could – (evil laugh here) – take advantage of!

But like I said, to be able to reach this stage, you must first gain experience in playing online poker. Make sure, however, that you don’t overdo it by bankrupting yourself in the process.
